Smaller poodles have always been known as companion dogs. They are small to medium-size, with a fine, straight muzzle. Their coat is either curly or corded. Toys stand up to 10 inches at the shoulders and weigh between 5-7 pounds. Miniatures are 11-15 inches and weigh between 12-16 pounds.

Poodles are sensitive and wary of strangers, but highly affectionate with their families. They are intelligent, amusing little dogs and most love to play with children, if they are well socialized. Poodles are long living pets with a life expectancy of 12-15 years. They do require extensive grooming, but have a beautiful coat if well maintained. The Shih Tzu is a small, sturdy dog that stands up to 11 inches and can weigh between 9-16 pounds. They have a thick double coat that needs attention and grooming. They have an unwrinkled, short snout with very large eyes that are set wide apart.

They make great house pets. They need to be with people because of their lively, playful personality. They are great with children that are kind and polite to them.
